Burj will open in December: official
July 12, 2009
Developer Emaar Properties has officially confirmed that the opening of the Burj Dubai has been delayed until December.
Emirates Business, in an exclusive interview last May with Emaar Project Director Greg Sang, reported that the world’s tallest tower project was expected to open “by the end of the year”.

“But we are still looking at all of the programming elements. After lowering all the cranes in August, we still have to finish all the fitouts. As of now, the basic core and shell is all finished in Burj Dubai. But every floor is at a different stage of being completed,” said Sang.

Emaar’s office today officially confirmed to local media that the project would not open as originally forecast on September 9, to coincide with the opening of the Dubai Metro.

Speculation has been rife about the final height of the 160-floor Burj Dubai, which reportedly stands at 818 metres.

The project is part of the $20 billion (Dh73.4bn) Burj Dubai development, which includes a shopping mall, hotels and residential buildings.

When completed, the building will meet all four criteria listed by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), which classifies the world's tallest structures. CTBUH measures the height of buildings to the structural top, the highest occupied floor, the top of the roof and the tip of the spire, pinnacle, antenna, mast or flagpole.

Late last month, the Kleindienst Group said it would... read more»
The impossible transformed into reality
The biggest challenge during the building of the Burj Khalifa was to exercise caution, according to Mohamed Alabbar, Chairman of developer Emaar Properties. "You think of an idea and you get the best brains to get it done," he told Emirates Business. "The biggest challenge then is that you have to fight yourself to be cautious all the time, especially considering the size of the building. It is a global icon and a symbol of the city and you have to be cautious and not take anything... read more»
